The Garden Gallery III -- Iris, Wisteria, Lotus, Poppies, & Assorted Other Florals

I Iris

Since Iris is the Greek goddess for the Messenger of Love, her sacred flower is considered the symbol of communication and messages.  Greek men would often plant an iris on the graves of their beloved women as a tribute to the goddess Iris, whose duty it was to take the souls of women to the Elysian fields.  (Hana No Monogatari)

Thou art the Iris, fair among the fairest,
Who, armed with golden rod
And winged with the celestial azure, bearest
The message of some God.
(Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)

II Wisteria

When I begin painting I am in a state of unconsciousness; I suddenly forget that I am holding a brush in my hand.  (Wu Chen)

The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function.  (F. Scott Fitzgerald)

III  Lotus

Beginning with audacity is a very great part of the art of painting.  (Winston Churchill)

It's better to be sorry for what you did, than for what you
didn't do.  (Anonymous)

IV Poppies

No great artist ever sees things as they really are.   If he did he would cease to be an artist.
(Oscar Wilde)

Once bitten by the demon of painting, I never wanted to give it up.
(Henri Matisse)

V Narcissus

It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education.  (Albert Einstein)

Congratulate yourselves if you have done something strange
and extravagant and broken the monotony of a decorous age.  (Ralph Waldo Emerson)

IX Sunflowers

I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.   (Albert Einstein)

Age gives you the freedom to do some things you've never done before. Great work can come at any stage of your life.  (Will Barnet)
